DESIGN SOLUTIONS FOR THE LARGEST SEMICONDUCTOR LAB IN THE US

  • 1.6 Million SF Wafer Lab
  • 200,000 SF Office Space
  • 10,000 SF Data Center
  • Design & Procurement
  • 16% Under Budget

ABOUT SAMSUNG

Samsung is the world's largest consumer electronics company and has become the global market leader in more than 60 products (including semiconductors). The semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics is the world's largest memory chip and second largest semiconductor manufacturer worldwide.

THE CHALLENGE

Samsung Semiconductor in Austin, TX produces DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) chips used in most personal computer devices. In order to keep up with the market demands, Samsung built a 1.6 million square foot Wafer Lab (approximately the size of 9 football fields) that houses 200,000 sf of office space, and a 10,000 sf data center. This 300mm semiconductor lab was built right across the street from the current 200m fabrication lab. ACUITY was selected for the complex telecommunication infrastructure design and integration.

ACUITY'S SOLUTIONS

The new build wafer lab project required complete project design, management, and procurement. The design services included cable infrastructure, MER (Main Equipment Room), and Telco connectivity. Through our detailed schedules and oversight we came in 16% under budget on this multi-million dollar project.

RELOCATING THE FOURTH LARGEST PUBLICLY TRADED OIL & GAS COMPANY DURING HURRICANE SEASON

  • North American Headquarters
  • Relocation
  • 42-Story High Rise
  • 260,000 SF Office Space
  • Infrastructure & Disaster Recovery

ABOUT TOTAL

ToTAL is a leading multinational energy company operating in more than 130 countries with 96,400 employees. Together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, ToTAL is the fourth largest publicly traded international oil and gas company in the world.

THE CHALLENGE

ToTAL has relied on the ACUITY team to assist their company with 5 relocations over the years. So when it was time to move the ToTAL headquarters to five floors of a 42-story downtown high rise, they turned to us once again to ensure another smooth transition. There was a firm deadline for the relocation when Hurricane Rita came through potentially delaying the move for several weeks that would have cost additional lease fees and fines in excess of hundreds of thousands of dollars. As the project managers for the relo, we stepped up to the challenge and oversaw that the move to the new headquarters took place as scheduled without ever interrupting daily operations for Total.

ACUITY'S SOLUTIONS

The relocation project for ToTAL required complete project design, management, and procurement. The design services included the data center, infrastructure, and MER (Main Equipment Room). We also coordinated and planned the migration of all the cabling, Telco, voice, network, security & A/V. Evaluations and improvements were made regarding their disaster recovery plan to better suit the area and facility. ACUITY developed the budgets and schedules for this major relocation project that ensured it was executed on time and on budget despite the best efforts of Hurricane Rita.

AMD BUILDS NEW 870,000SF LONESTAR CORPORATE CAMPUS WITH "GREEN BUILDING" STANDARDS

  • New Lonestar Corporate Campus
  • Semiconductor Manufacturing
  • Green Building Standards
  • 870,000 SF
  • 4% Under Budget

ABOUT AMD

AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) is an American semiconductor company that designs and manufactures computer processors. With the development of the K6 Processor, AMD became the second-largest supplier of microprocessors globally behind Intel Corporation.

THE CHALLENGE

AMD had over 2,000 employees spread throughout the City of Austin (located in Texas). It became necessary to consolidate their offices and manufacturing labs into one single campus. They built a brand new 8-building campus totaling more than 870,000 sf. AMD was devoted to making the new Lonestar Campus a "model of responsible development". As part of that commitment they needed an IT design consultant that understands today's "Green Building" standards. The new campus consists of four office buildings, three garages, and one commons building. The goal of AMD in addition to consolidating their offices was to reduce their impact on the environment.

ACUITY'S SOLUTIONS

ACUITY was engaged by the client as the low-voltage design consultant responsible for the design and project management of the three year implementation for the campus duct bank and manhole system. We also designed and oversaw the implementation for the outside plant as well as inside plant cable systems, and Telco requirements. We were the central point of contact for AMD's move team responsible for the coordination and installation efforts for their LAN and VoIP. Our three year coordination efforts ensured that the infrastructure portions of the project conducted over seven phases were completed on time and 4% under budget.
